“Failure to transmit clean ECM image data”

Updated over a year ago

Q: What does “Failure to transmit clean ECM image data” fax error mean?

A: ECM stands for Error Correction Mode.

This error means that when attempting to send data to the other end, the fax provider was unable to do so 'cleanly.' Normally, this is due to a noisy line or lower quality equipment on the receiving end. Occasionally, when sending a fax, there will be a "communication blip" that happens (due to line quality, connectivity, receiving equipment) and it could resolve itself if you try to send the fax again.
